Michele Morrow Interview

Interview of Michele Morrow, an Actress highly interested in the move and the role of Lady Sylvanas

First of all, I know that you are interested in a lot of things. So may I let you introduce yourself to our french community?

I suppose you could call me a Final Girl, Actress, Gamer… and part-time Banshee. I’m a Columnist for Zooey Deschanel’s website HelloGiggles.com & I’m a Brand Ambassador for Spirithoods(discount for French fans linked at the bottom of this interview).

I know you for your high motivation to be Lady Sylvanas in the upcoming WoW movie . Why do you want to play this role absolutely? In what part of the Lore are you interested in?

I’m drawn to her. Sylvanas makes dangerous choices that continually challenge both the Horde and her very own Undead population. I usually play the role of the final girl in horror films – I’m the one the audience gets to know while sharing the perspective of the killer.

For Sylvanas, this was Arthas… but Blizzard didn’t let Sylvanas get the kill in Wrath of the Lich King… Therefore, our Banshee Queen is in an extremely interesting position. By raising the dead, some believe she’s walking the line of becoming what she fought against. However, now that she’s seen the future, Sylvanas has accepted that her role as a leader is more vital than she originally planned.

Yet, The Dark Lady could simply be fortifying herself by building a stronger Army – for if she loses her remaining Valkyrie, her soul is doomed to an eternity haunted by Arthas. I personally can’t imagine that Lady Sylvanas hasn’t entertained all of these thoughts. She truly takes her own council. If you haven’t read Dave Kosak’s faction leader short story Sylvanas Windrunner: Edge of Night, I highly suggest it. It’s everything I could have hoped for in Sylvanas lore, and more.

We have heard recently that Sam Raimi won’t be the director of the movie. What was your reaction? You know perfectly the cinema and WoW as well, who would be for you the good person to direct this movie and why?

I love Sam Raimi, especially because of his background in horror. I was excited to see his vision of Undercity. But, Hollywood changes all the time. I can’t answer this question specifically other than to say: a lot of directors could deliver the Warcraft film that we’re all hoping for. I personally compare the feel of Warcraft to my love for the ever epic, Lord of the Rings.

Lord of the Rings is a decade old and still holds up today. And why? At the time – no one in that movie was an enormous movie star. Some of the English actors were well known, but overall, they spent their money on the story. A movie likeWarcraft has the potential to tell their story and be as epic as Lord of the Rings. It doesn’t matter who directs it as long as they understand the lore (and hopefully plays the game).

If you get another role than the one of Lady Sylvanas, what would be your reaction ? Are you interested in another character and why?

My Dad used to tell me: Shoot for the moon and you’ll reach the stars. Working is always a good thing, especially if you believe in the project.

You are a talented actress, except those abilities what are the arguments that you can put forward to convince the production that you are the only one who can perfectly play the role of Lady Sylvanas ?

Those who know me can attest: I’ve been to hell and back in my personal life, and I have a lot to draw from and give to the role. But, my time will come to prove myself at the audition.

Who will you see beside you in the movie?

As far as I’m aware, no one has been cast in the Warcraft movie.

In general, video games are not very popular for the girls and they are not very linked with what the men call “a sexy girl”. So what do you find interesting in video games and particularly in WoW ?

Girls don’t play video games in France? I bet they have a secret club. Video games are an escape! And, for me, it’s not gender specific. But statistically speaking, In America, over 60% of gamers are now women. Now, of course, that depends on what your individual definition of “gaming” means. I feel like gaming should be a community – a community of nerds that love something and want to share it with each other.

World of Warcraft is an extremely rewarding game with a significant social element. There are multiple ways to play, but I personally love PvP and end game raiding. It’s a team effort. In my guild the rules are “don’t be a dick” and “have fun”. I don’t have time to play any other way, so I’ve been very selective in whom I’ve let in my guild – gender doesn’t matter to me.

For our male audience who would love to play with their girlfriend in WoW, what would you advice to use as arguments to help them to convince them to start in the game? For you, is WoW a good first video game for a woman or would you advice another video game to start with?

My personal creed is to not identify gaming with gender. But WoW is a great game for anyone to start with – one just needs the right “guide”. If your significant other isn’t computer savvy, don’t get frustrated. Be patient. Give the basics – how to move, how to get quests, and how to access bags/armor. Don’t overwhelm. Remember: the more fun you have playing together, the better chance you have that your loved one will adopt the game. Go slow.

Let them choose the faction and class that THEY want to play. Character creation is a huge element of personal attachment. My advice is to assess what the two of you have in common in real life. Do you both like nature and exploring? Plan to take the path of Questing. Do you both like books and stories? Read all of the Quest text – together. Out loud. In different voices! Have fun. Maybe the both of you like collecting? Introduce the achievement system. I wouldn’t suggest dungeons until you’re both comfortable playing your roles confidently with strangers.

You love WoW so much that you are not only a gamer. You are also a guild leader. What kind of guild are you in charge for? What is your progression in the game?

Yea, I lead a guild called Neverender on Thorium Brotherhood. It’s an RP-PVE server, but we’re not RP. I’ve been on PVP servers and the trade chat is just … horrendous. Not to say that Thorium Brotherhood is like, some paradise where nothing awful is uttered, but the conversations tend to be far more respectful in comparison. My guild rocks. We’ve had a great core group of raiders for a few years now, and most of them are among my officers.

Neverender is like a family. We’re a casual raiding guild due to time zones -- only raiding two nights a week. 10 man’s. Sometimes 25. Sometimes two 10s. It depends.

We’ve cleared all current Cata content, with several Heroic modes finished. Two of our rogues have their Legendries; our Boomkin has his staff from Firelands. So, while we do laugh and have fun while raiding, we take our time seriously with a tight team and timeframe. I love arena and PVP so we do Rated BGs and 3’s, sometimes 5’s. We love having Casuals in guild too, and as long as they abide by the same rules of respect, they happily add to general good attitude of my guild.

While waiting to see you in the upcoming WoW movie, if our visitors want you know your better, which of your movies do you recommend them first and why?

Basement Jack. I have three epic fight scenes -- watch while I level my skill in daggers, maces and … electricity. The budget was very low, so the CGI is kinda bad, in areas. BUT – if you watch and listen undistracted, you’ll realize it’s kind of a really cool emo horror flick. The music is awesome – you must pay attention to it… as it was done by Alan Howarth, who has credits like the Halloweenfranchise under his belt (among other amazing projects). My character is the lead – the Final Girl – and I’m hunting Jack Riley after he killed my entire family. Note that Basement Jack is the second in a trilogy, so the Manager character may be a bit odd at first. The third movie would explain who he is. But yea… watch it. It’s fun. I’m really proud of my fight scenes.

Finally, do you want to add something? Don’t hesitate to communicate to our visitors where they can find you!

I currently have three projects – one is a lead in an indie thriller, one is a webseries based on table top gaming, and the other is a ground breaking new show that I can’t wait to share with everyone… it starts in October. I can’t release the information yet… but I always give updates as I’m allowed to get them on my fan page and twitter.
